new construction

Over the holidays I and my two friends Aaron and tom have been discussing various possible changes towards each music video. In the end we all agreed that they would be happy for me to join their group. The reason for this is because even though we had disagreements about each other’s ideas which lead me to work on my own music piece, I felt more confident in what I was doing (e.g. organising, filming, editing) and more capable to achieve my target if I worked in a group as long as I was able to communicate with each other, give them ideas and participate evenly so we all had the same amount of roles to fulfil. Currently we have thought of a narrative idea of events taking place within a normal routine which we are hoping to explore further. With regards to camera shots and sound, we are hoping to achieve very creative abstract shots such as hand held 360 degree shots, continuous tracking through to the next scene, and perhaps low angle and high angle shots which could challenge the meaning e.g high angle suggest vulnerability and exposure but we are still in the process of deciding to use this idea though. We are only planning on using little sound, only important sound effects to enhance the event such as women screaming when being mugged ect.

The music video which I and my partners are creating is:
"Where is the love" -by The Black Eyed Peas.

The reason why I decided to choose this song is that firstly I hadn't heard the song often however I knew that I instantly loved the song and would never get bored of listening which is vital so I could have a stable and strong commitment to the production of the video. It also directly allowed me and my group to be able to think of creative and effective ideas. The song also touched me emotionally and created an impact of anger, sadness but joyfulness because of the privilege I have been given with to be able to have ability to use such facilities and learn such subjects which lead me to reflect on the lyrics and how they relate to such devastation and most importantly what our world has come to.

Ideas behind our video

When we first decided to choose this music video, our intentions towards our own version was to create and send a message to the audience of where exactly is the love in this world and get them to think what they're aspects towards all of the horror that occur every day around the world are. Of course the black eyed peas already created that message but in a different style to what we were intending. Therefore we had to come up with a completely different style and narrative towards the song yet still contain the message because that is what we wanted to get across to the audience. Our main idea was the setting. An urban setting would be most suitable because we wanted to create a sense of realism to emphasise the surroundings that the young generation are living in. Another idea was firstly not to contain frequent dull shots within our video (e.g. mid shots). This was because I personally felt that more varied and imaginative shots in a music video create a bigger impact towards the audience, this potentially draws the audience more into the video and become more focused and involved with what is happening. If we achieve this, hopefully the audience will visualize the narrative in more depth because they hopefully again, will be drawn into the video.

  1. so what ideas did you have (with regards to narrative and camera shots)? Also check your spelling and grammar! Sentences and names begin with CAPITAL letters!
